Best free magazines for senior citizens

June 3, 2020 //  by Nina Penn

The rising cost of utilities, housing, healthcare and food, along with a significant reduction in earnings, can make it hard for seniors to allot funds for hobbies and entertainment, even if these only involve the purchase of a few magazines each month.

However, reading is so much more than just a stimulating and engaging hobby! Often, magazines for seniors have practical and highly relevant information on how to deal with the issues of retirement. Plus, both online and offline magazines are a fantastic way to find out about discounts and offers from local businesses.

The good news is that your frugal ways need not impact your desire to read, when you can get free retirement magazines. While some of these are online-only publications, others are premier print- magazines that would cost you a pretty penny at the local newsstand.

Websites That Offer Free Subscription To Premier Print Magazines

I am sure you noticed that most of the magazines listed above are senior-specific publications. Unfortunately, few premier magazines give out free copies and subscriptions to people, senior or not.

You can get a year’s subscription free if you go through websites that offer freebies in return for filling out surveys, etc. Here are three such tried and tested websites:

1. Value Mags

Whether you are looking for a discount on print magazines or totally free subscriptions, this site offers them both. The best part is that they will never ask you to pay for anything, which means you don’t ever have to fish out your credit card and offer vital financial information online.

Another plus is that they don’t renew your subscription without a go-ahead from you. Additionally, after your free subscription offer expires, you can typically get a hefty discount of 25-50% on purchase. Value Mags has a lot of premier print magazine subscriptions on offer. Typically, you are offered three magazines when you sign up with them.

After registration with Value Mags, you have to sign up to take surveys for their sponsors but that is about it. At this time, among the several magazines they offer are: National Geographic, Arthritis Today, Outdoor Photographer, Outdoor life and others.

2. Mercury Magazines

This Company also works in the same way as Value Mags, but they do offer purchases in their sign up process. Although you are not required to buy anything, you have to pay attention when going through the sign up process, lest you inadvertently end up purchasing something from them.

To keep things easy, simply say, “No” when asked for your credit card details, and you should be fine. Like with Value Mags, after you register with the site, you will be shown the list of magazines that are available for free subscription. You are allowed to choose three of these, but you will earn the free subscriptions only after going through a couple of surveys.

3. Freebizmag

The selection of free subscriptions offered by Freebizmag is not as expansive as the other two sites. However, if you like to read about the happenings in the world of commerce even in your golden years, this would be the right portal for you. Apart from magazines, you can also find white papers, user guides and eBooks on this site.

You will have to register to view the list of free subscription offers available to you. But, even after signing up, you will have to be approved by the publisher before you can avail the free subscription. As you may have expected, magazines tend to give more preference to readers connected with the industry that they publish for.

In addition to these sites, a Kindle Unlimited membership will also get you access to free magazines. At the time of writing this article, they had nearly 75 magazines on offer in various genres, including entertainment, news, health and fitness, business, travel and more.

You don’t have to own the eReader to access these magazines. Simply download the kindle app to your phone or tablet and you will be good to go.

Although the app is free, you will have to pay $9.99 for the Unlimited membership. But, they have a one-month free trial offer, so you can test the service before purchase.
